Who Inspires Me? A Path Toward My Dreams

Updated: Jun 15

This article was born out of a deep conversation I had with a close friend. As we discussed the ups and downs of pursuing my dreams and my ideas for making the world a better place, I was asked a simple yet profound question: "Who inspires you? What inspires you?"

I was encouraged to seek energy from these sources, especially when I feel less focused, distracted, or depleted. It was a reminder of the importance of surrounding myself with an environment that believes in my potential and of my ultimate goal.

As I reflect on my journey, I find myself drawing strength and guidance from a diverse array of individuals. Each of these remarkable people, from different eras and walks of life, embodies the virtues and resilience I aspire to in my quest to make a positive impact on the world.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: The Beacon of Justice

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a pioneering Jewish woman like myself, broke countless barriers in her pursuit of gender equality and justice. Her relentless dedication to civil rights and her remarkable legal acumen serve as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through perseverance and a commitment to fairness. Whenever I face challenges in my legal career, I think of Ginsburg’s tenacity and her ability to turn adversity into an opportunity for change. Her legacy encourages me to fight for justice, not just in courtrooms but in everyday interactions.

Golda Meir: The Unyielding Leader

Golda Meir’s journey from a humble immigrant to the Prime Minister of Israel exemplifies the power of determination and leadership. Her unwavering commitment to her country and her role in shaping its future inspire me to lead with conviction and to never shy away from difficult decisions that promote the greater good. When I find myself doubting my leadership abilities, I remember Meir’s courage and resilience, and I am reminded that true leadership often involves making tough choices and standing firm in my beliefs.

Martin Luther King Jr.: The Dreamer of Justice

Martin Luther King Jr.’s profound impact on the civil rights movement in America through nonviolent resistance and powerful oratory continues to resonate deeply. His vision of a just and equal society, and his courage in the face of immense adversity, remind me of the importance of fighting for equality and justice in every aspect of life. King’s dream inspires me to envision a better world and to work tirelessly towards it, even when the road is fraught with obstacles.

King David and Moses: The Spiritual Guides

The ancient figures of King David and Moses offer timeless lessons in leadership and faith. King David’s journey from shepherd to king, marked by both triumphs and tribulations, teaches resilience and humility. Moses’ role as a liberator and lawgiver, leading his people to freedom, underscores the significance of perseverance, ethical living, and unwavering faith. In moments of self-doubt or spiritual struggle, I turn to their stories for guidance and strength, knowing that their legacy of faith and leadership can light my path.

Plato: The Philosopher of Virtue

Plato’s exploration of justice, virtue, and the ideal society in works like "The Republic" provides a philosophical foundation for understanding the deeper principles that should guide our actions. His emphasis on the pursuit of wisdom and the importance of ethical leadership aligns with my own aspirations to create a just and enlightened society. Plato’s teachings encourage me to constantly seek knowledge and to apply ethical principles in all areas of my life, striving to be a leader who values wisdom and justice.

The Kabbalah: The Mystical Path

Kabbalistic teachings, with their emphasis on Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and personal transformation, offer profound spiritual insights. The Tree of Life and the principles of unity and interconnectedness inspire me to see the divine in every action and to work tirelessly to bring about healing and justice in the world. The mystical aspects of Kabbalah remind me that my actions, no matter how small, contribute to the greater good, and this belief fuels my dedication to making a positive impact.

Celine Dion: The Voice of Passion

As a fellow francophone from Montreal, Celine Dion’s incredible journey from humble beginnings to international stardom is profoundly inspiring. Her passion, dedication, and authenticity in her music resonate deeply with me. Dion’s ability to connect with people through her art reminds me of the power of perseverance and staying true to oneself. Her story encourages me to pursue my passions wholeheartedly and to remain authentic in all my endeavors.

Brandie Wilkerson: The Volleyball Virtuoso

As a left-handed volleyball player myself, I find immense inspiration in Brandie Wilkerson’s achievements on the beach volleyball courts. Her determination, skill, and grace under pressure motivate me to push my own boundaries in the sport. Wilkerson’s journey reminds me that with hard work and resilience, I can achieve my dreams both on and off the court. Her success encourages me to embrace my unique strengths and to persevere through challenges.

Each of these figures, through their unique contributions and unwavering commitment to their ideals, offers a blueprint for pursuing a life of purpose and virtue. Their stories remind me that the path to making a meaningful impact in the world is filled with challenges, but it is also richly rewarding. By drawing inspiration from their lives, I am continually motivated to strive for justice, compassion, and excellence in all my endeavors.

Note to self :

Ultimately, my journey towards my dreams is deeply personal and profoundly influenced by those who inspire me. I aim to see myself as others do—to fully embrace my potential and transform my dreams into reality. With this belief, I will never settle for less than what I truly need and want, especially in my relationships. Embracing the lessons and virtues of my role models, I am committed to creating a life of purpose, driven by passion and guided by the principles of justice and compassion. This journey, inspired by those who have come before me, is one I undertake with passion and determination, knowing that I, too, can make a difference in the world.

As I continue on this path, I am ready to take that leap of faith towards my dreams, holding full faith in myself despite the risks, knowing that the journey itself is a testament to my growth and resilience.
