Speaking for the trees. 🌳 🌲

I visited the Treblinka extermination camp. Nearly 1 million Jews were murdered in its gas chambers and burnt.

This was particularly emotional for me.
With every feeling and thought passing through me in the last few days… everything led me to this moment - where I felt connected.

This is the poem I wrote about my experience there:

Speaking for the trees. 🌳 🌲

In Treblinka’s shadowed realm, where horrors dwell,
The trees stand witness, silent sentinels of hell.

Their branches whisper tales of agony and woe,
As if they mourn the souls that they once knew.

Through twisted limbs, they watch the truth unfold,
A chilling narrative that cannot be controlled.

Deny it if you must, but history’s gaze remains,
In the haunting echo of their silent refrains.
For those who turn away, afraid to face the past,
Their hearts are shackled to a darkness that will last.

But in the light of truth, we find our humanity,
And from the depths of sorrow, we can truly see.

So let us honor those who suffered in despair,
Their voices cry out from the earth and air.

In their memory, we pledge to never forget,
And speak for the trees, whose silent vigilance beset.

For love and G-d reside in empathy’s embrace,
Where truth and compassion find their rightful place.

May their legacy endure, a beacon in the night,
Guiding us towards a future bathed in light.

For my brothers, my sisters, in anguish we share,
I vow to speak for the trees, with passion laid bare.

Their silent witness to horror, I’ll make known,
In their memory, seeds of truth will be sown.

Through darkness and doubt, my voice will resound,
For love, for humanity, on sacred ground.

In their presence, I find strength to endure,
As their whispers of sorrow, my spirit ensures.

For in their silent vigil, a story untold,
Lies the power to heal, to break the stronghold.

So I pledge my life to their cause, ever true,
For in speaking for the trees, I honor you.
