From Pain to Peace: A Journey of Healing and Liberation

While at the Western Wall this week, I reflected on my journey from Poland’s somber history to Jerusalem’s sacred present; and wrote this poem:

From Pain to Peace: A Journey of Healing and Liberation

Volunteering in Israel after October 7, months of giving grace,
Marching through history in Poland’s solemn space.

The Holocaust’s echoes, a storm of pain and loss,
Yet through the tempest, we find our pathway across.

On this quest for enlightenment, peace, and truth,
We navigate the whirlwind, the storm uncouth.

But within its chaos lies a beautiful art,
A puzzle piece to peace, a journey to the heart.

Through calm waters, we find solace, release,
Yet it’s within the tornado we find our peace.

For amidst the turbulence, we uncover the key,
To authenticity, spirituality, and harmony.

The Jewish Ghetto’s wall in Poland stands tall,
Bearing witness to tragedy, humanity’s fall.
Yet through remembrance, we honor their plight,
And find resilience in the darkest of night.

Onward to Jerusalem, the Western Wall gleams,
A beacon of hope, where prayers stream.

In Tzfat’s ancient embrace, where roots intertwine,
The Jewish Tree of Life, a symbol divine.
Born anew in its shade, I journey back today,
to heal, to grow, to learn, along its sacred way.

Completing this chapter, a journey profound,
As Passover’s meaning echoes all around.
At these sacred sites, walls of time and space,
I find my place, my purpose, my grace.

In Tzfat’s embrace, I heal and grow,
In Jerusalem’s heart, my spirit aglow.
With each step forward, I reclaim my truth,
Amidst the storm, I find my route.

As Passover’s light guides my way,
I embrace the dawn of a brand-new day.

Am Yisrael Chai
